Welcome to the Canadian chapter of the GNU Project, | |
now in the gopherspace! GNU Canada hopes to be a welcoming | |
group of people working together on furthering GNU and the | |
free software movement in Canada through advocacy, activism, | |
as well as developing and contributing to free software | |
projects, especially GNU packages. | |
GNU was launched by Richard Stallman (rms) in 1983, with the | |
goal of developing a wholly free (as in freedom) operating | |
system, the GNU operating system, to give all software users | |
control and freedom over their computing. Today, the GNU | |
system is most commonly used with the kernel Linux, the | |
