purple potatoes?

In the last two days, I have gotten 3 ore lounging pants cut
out. One pair is for a friend of mine, I want to make her a test
pair before I cut into the "good fabric." Actually, it is
flannel with elephants on it. She has a thing about elephants
and I like to encourage her! So first she's getting a floral
flannel for which I paid $3.00 for 4 yards!

Chez M the purples came in over 6 feet long and thick they are
"all blue" peruvian taters. some list them as 'all blue PEru"
.( great when using mandolin and making chips for salsa, always
an impressive hit)
prepped 32 bintje , 34 kennebec, 18 blue to plant out in 2-3
days.
the kennebec and bintjes made white tangled clusters of eyes.

Earlier in the year, I realized that my craft room was out of
control. The stashes--fabric, yarn, and spinning fiber--were
plotting to take over my life unless I did something radical. So
I set myself a a challenge:
1. I had to finish all extant projects before I could start
anything new.
2. I had to use up stash materials before I could buy anything
new.
3. I had to give away at least half of all finished projects.
So far it's going well. I've made five baby quilts all of stash
fabric--they're waiting until there are babies for them. I've
made multiple hats and mittens to give away next winter. And I'm
just now getting around to the spinning fiber, but keeping the
wheel in the living room with a basket of rovings beside it
reminds me to sit down and work on it just a few minutes at a
time, and it's progressing nicely. (Of course my husband says,
"Doesn't reducing the spinning stash actually increase the yarn
stash?" I told him to shut it.)
I'm really enjoying this challenge. The only things I've bought
are thread, batting and the like, and they don't count, right?
;) Today is finishing a knitted hat, spinning for a
long-neglected shawl project and sorting out scraps for the next
baby quilt. (Housework? What's that?)

hahahahah... oh, you weren't telling a joke... LOL! Kidding - I
have tried the above rules - goes great for a while and then I
get sucked in by something new that I have to do RIGHT NOW!
Currently I am working on finishing a quilt that I started 13+
years ago (hand blanket stitch applique). I did finish a 20 year
old project this year that was originally for someone else but
they didn't provide me with the quotes that were to be put on
the quilt, so I found quotes myself and now it's my quilt. And I
don't buy much new fabric, usually just to finish something, but
my quilt group keeps bringing in fabric to trade or give away
and I can't resist sometimes!

One big reason it's working so well for me is that I am
currently on a verrrrrrry tight budget. Couldn't really buy new
stash if I wanted to. Before my husband and I retired a few
years ago, I went on a serious buying spree, figuring that the
time would come when ready cash was not as available. So now
it's comforting to think, well, we had beans and rice three
times this week, but I'm knitting cashmere--so life is pretty
good!
And no, the cashmere will NOT be a gift project. I'm generous,
but I'm not stupid.

My plan for Christmas this year includes using a lot of my
fabric stash. I should be able to make gifts for 22 people and
use up 1% of my stash. Oh, who am I kidding?! I won't even use
1% of 1%!
