I have been ordering real linen from Fabrics-Store.com for some
special summer projects - the "linen" at JoAnn's is sometimes
linen textured polyester...or a linen & polyester blend. If I
want "linen" for a summer blouse or dress in hot & humid
weather, I want to know that it was from flax - any "blend" can
be cotton or rayon - no polyester. Fabrics-Store also has free
patterns to download....
It's been the exception to my "no new fabric" - I forgot to
swear to "no new beads" - but a couple of the linen projects
just cried out for a special accessory and there was this sale
going on (50% is hard to resist & 60% or even 75% off is just
about irresistible).
But the new beads will fit in the same box as the old beads - so
it doesn't look like I have that much more in the stash...I also
have "dispensation" when I need to buy a new color of thread,
buttons, zippers, or whatever notions are needed to finish a
project. Otherwise they'd join the UnFinished Objects (UFOs) in
the stash from early times when I got stalled...
I've finished more jewelry projects than sewing projects -
partly due to trying to clean & oil my "new" used classic Singer
and dropping it - even four or five inches is apparently a huge
drop to a sewing machine. It's in the "hospital" and I'm hoping
to get it back in a month or so. I just hope that it is
repairable...I'd bought accessories for it from eBay and they
won't work with the newer sewing machines...
But I have a semi-sheer "turquoise" linen tank top that I had
been in the middle of when the machine started whirring when I
pressed the foot pedal instead of working...so now I need to
clean off a different machine & take off the embroidery bed to
convert it back to sewing...the two machines are very different
eras and do NOT use the same bobbins...so some time will be
spent moving the thread from one bobbin type to another...
Or I could do something else and get back to the tank top - it
will be hot & humid around Houston until some time in
October...usually.

Finally finished pressing some blocks - this quilt has 42 - 12
inch blocks. Each block has four sections (168). Each section
has two halves (336). Each half has four pieces (336x4=over
1300!). I am already tired of it! LOL! I have to trim all 168
sections before I can sew further. I think I may have 40 done so
far. After I finish trimming, I will be setting it aside for a
while so I can finish the origami boxes for my young friend's
wedding. Then I have to bind her wedding present quilt (pictures
forthcoming, when it's bound), and an identical one that will be
for some other future bride (they were a mystery quilt that I
participated in, that turned out to be hearts, not something I
was thrilled with but great for wedding gifts), and my quotation
quilt that was a 20 year UFO.

I started knitting a pullover, knitted in the round, so no
seams. It's a very complex project for the level of knitting I
can do, but one row at a time :).
I also learned to do mittens, so I'm making a series of
fingerless mittens and I've had quite a few nice reactions to
them. I'll probably get some orders in the fall.

When I have the 4am brain in hamster-on-a-wheel mode, I
fantasise about a seamfree pullover... <Insert drooling smiley>
We're happy to see progress pics, as well as those of the
finished item, you know! </heavy hint>
Are you starting at the top, or the bottom, coralreef?
Everytime I think of the logistics [4am thinking, remember?], I
imagine it could get like wrestling an octopus, having a cushion
tucked under one arm, whilst armed with only two blunt
pencils... ;) ;D

Turned on the AC so I could finish two crocheting projects, a
chevron (ripple) afghan and a Modern Granny shrug.
I'm jealous! I'm a beginner at crocheting and I tried to make a
chevron afghan. After ripping it out countless times, I've given
up. It's become apparent I can't crochet and count to 11 at the
same time, lol. After the upteenth attempt the rows were
actually coming out right but the end was wonky. I switched to
double crocheting. Way easier, lol

1. Oogyda, the machine was a gift , therefore it is yours to
do with as you will. :)
2. This is what it looks like when the potatoes beg to get
planted :
Are those purple stems? I'm guessing Vitelotte or similar
purple potatoes?
Chez M the purples came in over 6 feet long and thick they are
"all blue" peruvian taters. some list them as 'all blue PEru"
.( great when using mandolin and making chips for salsa, always
an impressive hit)
prepped 32 bintje , 34 kennebec, 18 blue to plant out in 2-3
days.
the kennebec and bintjes made white tangled clusters of eyes.
I remember a special bintje restaurant in Brussels; they were
delicious! I'm going to keep an eye :) out for the all blue
Peru potatoes - thanks for the idea, RevMaxx. :)

Thank you so much, daen - I'm catching up with my post-EH
reading, and I have now ordered both from eBay [how is it
cheaper for me to buy from Germany than the UK?!?] ;D
The link thing: type an = after the first url, before the
closing bracket, and then between the closing bracket and the
opening one, type the words you want to appear. If that makes
sense?
Eg, (using angled brackets instead of square ones):
<url=www.thing_you_want_to_link_to>This great idea!</url>
instead of
<url>www.thing_you_want_to_link_to</url>

Okay, so I broke my "no new purchases" rule this weekend. I was
on vacation, so that doesn't count, right? ;) Wandering through
an antique mall, of all places, and came upon a basket full of
raw Blue Faced Leicester fleece. Bought it all--30 ounces--for
just over $20. It called my name, it was a fantastic bargain,
and again, vacation purchases don't count. Hopefully I can start
washing and carding this weekend. Yay!
