Carnival Zone (Shadow and Sonya)
By: Shadow the Hedgehog Date: October 20, 2019, 10:20 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The ultimate life-form wounded up by the carnival entrance of
all places, its not a place he would enjoy visiting. People here
are noisy and the loud noises from these silly contraptions
makes him lose brain cells, he would much rather go someplace
quiet in isolation, indulge in a book or something but he has no
say in the matter. unfortunately. Shadow stood in line behind a
lot of people to register for a ticket to get in the carnival,
arms folded and eyelids flatten, irritated by constant
chit-chatter of children and adults eager to have a good time,
he has no idea why he is sent to this snooze-fest!
Shadow looked around then stepped out of line and move away from
the crowed, enough distance was between them so he can
communicate with his boss discreetly. Shadow pressed a button on
his wrist device and an image of Abraham Tower appeared on ID
"Commander, why did you make me come to this place?" demanding
to know why he is wasting time at a carnival when he should be
out doing assignments.
"I've sent you there because you are grumpier than usual, I've
been getting a lot of complaints about your attitude from our
soldiers lately and I've noticed you haven't gotten any sleep
for weeks" the commander replied.
"I don't need any sleep nor do I want to waste my time in
festivities" Shadow said bluntly.
"Well suck it up Agent, I'm ordering you to take a load off for
the rest of the week and loosen up a little, go have some fun at
the carnival, there is such thing as too much work even for the
ultimate lifeform, Over and out" Abraham hung up as the screen
on his device went black. Shadow sighed and returned to the back
of the line, folding his arms and waiting for his turn to pay
for entry.

What was the point in this? the answer being that getting out
was a better alternative than staying indoors and feeling like
the despondent fennec she felt like being. Needless to say itd
been a rough couple of weeks for everybody locally, but nothing
positive was going to happen if she allowed herself to slip so
easily into the dark place her mind was threatening to lure her
back into. She needed to be out she needed loud noises,
shrieking children, odd carnival food smells that seemed to all
be mixing into one. Granted the lively atmosphere wasnt making
her feel much better in mood but she was trying, that was all
that mattered. And so here she was with a stupid smile on her
face for the publics benefit in line to buy a carnival ticket
internally wishing she was anywhere else. One out of two of her
large fluffy ears giving an involuntary flicker as she began to
pick up on what was meant to be private conversation near by
Sonya found herself cringing with embarrassment.
It really was never her intention to eavesdrop on others it just
sort of happened. She was about to tune her concentration out to
allow the individuals their privacy until recognition flared. A
range of expressions clouding over her features within the
moments that followed she eventually settled on one that was
uncharacteristically poker faced her entire body stiffening, she
was digging her nails into her palms so hard there was a chance
shed broken skin. Without turning around she already knew who
was in line behind her and as preferable as it would have been
for her to ignore Shadows existence entirely being rude was
beneath her. And so making sure she actually took a quiet deep
inhale and exhale she un clenched her fists, smoothed her vexed
facial features into something much less hostile and turned to
greet him in a tone that oozed mostly faux but convincing
enthusiasm. "Hello Shadow. Fancy seeing you here

Shadow was too much in a sour mood to realize a person he
recognizes is standing right in front of him. His scarlett eyes
are still soiled by drooping eyelids while looking at the fennec
fox, either from lack of sleep or general apathy of whats around
him, or it could be both. "What are YOU doing here.." he said
flatly, she may have greeted him with kindness and normally he
would return the favor mutually, but his mood hasn't been the
best as of late.
The line moved up and the pair aren't that much far away from
the entry payment.

Shuffling herself awkwardly along when the line ahead of them
moved, she stifled the urge to reply with something equally as
blunt and standoffish. She couldnt believe the nerve of this
hedgehog! here they were barely a few minutes into a
conversation and from the looks of it feigning politeness was
too much. Her civil smile straining at the edges Sonya felt one
of her eye lids almost twitch in annoyance.IM HERE to enjoy
the carnival zone like everyone else and have fun. Which I know
is probably a foreign concept for you. What are you doing here
anyway? Is Amy nearby? Her tone holding a hint of surprise at
the last part and a millisecond of hope she knew that if her
surrogate older sibling was within range then this mutually
uncomfortable conversation would soon be over.

Shadow's expression didn't waver, he is probably too tired to
bicker with Sonya nor did he care how she feels, though she
mentioned the whereabouts of Amy which reminded him he needed to
check up on his lover considering she will need emotional
support after the defeat of Eggman. "No, Amy isn't here, I was
sent here because the military complained they didn't like my
attitude...apparently, so I was ordered to be off-duty for a
week.." his dagger sharp words are coated with annoyance, it's
obvious he longed to get back out in the field and he considers
this place to be a form of punishment, oh well there is nothing
he can do about it.
The line moved up once again and eventually its the black
hedgehog's turn to pay for his entry fee, Shadow walked through
the entrance gate and stood in the middle of it, having no clue
of what to do in this lively place. "What a noisy place" folding
his arms.

Her eyebrow arching a fraction at his reply her disappointment
that her sister wouldn’t be coming to her rescue anytime
time was evident. Though her absence was deeply concerning for
the fennec so made a mental note to check up on her at the
nearest opportunity. Yeah they’d won the war but things
were far from being anywhere near normal yet and with emotions
still running high she didn’t want to leave her best
friend by herself at a time like this. Ignoring the annoyance
that oozed from the rest of response she feigned surprise when
he mentioned the reasoning for him being ordered off duty.
“How could anyone not like your attitude? Your’re a
real ray of sunshine.” Her comment coming out dry, she
fixed on a much sweeter smile for the ticket attendant thanking
them as she took her turn paying the entry fee, and swept past.
Due to his rudeness initially Sonyas intention had been to peace
out and get on with her day, but instead she got as far as a
couple of steps before her damned guilty conscience kicked in.
Well that and she knew that Amy would be hurt if she found out
that they’d run into each other here and she hadn’t
at least TRIED to make a mends on her end. Running a hand slowly
down her face she pulled it back allowing the skin to snap back
into place before she turned back towards the black hedgehog.
“Er .. look I apologise. Given everything that’s
happening right now I’m not really in the best place
emotionally. Would you like a carnival buddy? I’ll try to
hold the sarcasm.”

"......." Shadow's tactium personality lead him to walk away
without uttering a word to his carnival buddy trying to
apologize to him, its not like he has anything against Sonya, he
just wanted to get this day over with. On the bright side, he
didn't object to wanting someone to accompany him on his quest
to have fun.
The black hedgehog scouted for an activity to start the day off
and spotted an activity that pipes his interest, it consists of
fake hand guns with cans being stacked upside down lined up to
each other as the targets. Shadow walked towards the booth and
examine the interior, a man standing in the booth noticed his
new customer approaching and gave him a friendly smile.
"Hey! would ya like to play this game for one ring? All ya have
to is shoot down the paper cups and ya win a prize!" showing
Shadow various items he could win such as plush animals, toy
items for children, and sports items. Shadow bared little
interest in these prizes but he will participate in the game to
give him something to do, placed one ring in the jar them picked
up a hand gun. he examined the projectile device and took aim,
with hesitation and concentration he shot down one cup out of
many more he has to knock down.
"That's the spirit! just five more to go!" the guy cheered.

Taking his silence as more of an agreement than a disagreement
the fennec buried the bitterness that threatened to engulf her.
No matter how discourteous he was going to keep being she was
going to be nothing but polite and well mannered. She was NOT
going to let him get under her skin that easily. However as she
trailed off behind him to his game of choice she couldn’t
help but wish and not for the first time that day that she was
anywhere else. Though when she neared the booth moments after
she tried her best to drench up a smile the stall owners way for
appearances sake. Having no interest in guns when the man asked
if they wanted to play the game she was all too quick to shake
her head causing her soft blonde waves to swish back and forth
in one soft motion. "Oh I couldn’t he’s much more
the gun expert anyway.” Despite the impressive selection
of plush toys that were captivating her attention she stood idle
hands placed behind her back, watching Shadow in his presumed
element.
The sound of the mock gun firing causing her large fluffy ears
to pin backwards halfway on her head she rolled her blue irises
skyward upon realising that unless she took a turn they’d
run the risk of being here all evening. Placing a ring of her
own in the collection jar Sonya wordlessly picked up a hand gun
but unlike Shadow she didn’t take time to examine the
plastic weapon on hand instead tossing it back and forth between
her fingerless gloved hands for moment, before settling on the
hand she was most comfortable taking aim with. Eyes narrowing
for a split second she then proceeded to shoot down the
remainder of the cups that had been left standing. One after the
other in a startlingly smooth sequence. ‘Huh.. Scourge is
right it really does help to aim straight for the centre or in
his case where the core of someones brain would be.’
Placing her gun back in its slot the fennec let out a giggle.
“Beginners luck I guess? If it’s okay will take the
plush animals please!”

Shadow was about to shoot another target when Sonya stepped up
to play the game herself, his haughty demeanor doesn't believe
she could use a gun efficiently, she admitted guns aren't her
thing but why did she change her mind? He is left pondering
about her actions.
The fennec fox shooting down all of the bottle cups with minimum
effort left both the booth owner and the ultimate life form in
shock, however that's where the similarities in their expression
ended. Shadow placed the mock weapon back in its holster and
folded his arms, pretending he wasn't impressed, his left cheek
puffed slightly as he pouted over being shown-up in skill.
"Wow! You shot all of those bottle caps down like a cowgirl in
the middle of a shoot out, here you go!" the man complimented
her ability as he reached for a bird plushy then hand it over to
Sonya.
"Hmph" Shadow huffed and walked away from the game, he stood
there waited for Sonya to finish up while folding his arms,
wanting to move on to the next activity. the booth owner noticed
Shadow's aloof behavior and tilted his head. "Your friend
doesn't like this game very much" smiling at the prize winner.

Ever modest the fennec stayed humble despite her rather apparent
victory. But both the booth owners and Shadows stunned
expressions didn’t go amiss with her subtle smirk being an
indicator. That smirk materialising into something softer when
the game owner handed over her bird plush she cradled it with
pride while beaming joyfully at him. “It’s really
all in the wrist thank you.” The sound of the hedgehogs
nearby huffing causing one of her fluffy ears to flicker she saw
from her peripheral vision that he’d already stalked off
in typical sulk mode. “Don’t mind him he’s not
really a gracious loser. Have a good evening!” Wandering
away from the stall to stop beside the huffy one rather than
comment on his lack of manners she decided that it was probably
best to try move their evening along as quickly as possible.
Her gaze drifting round the area for a few moments she soon
spotted something that looked like fun, for her at least.
“Roll up roll up! who here has with it takes to brave the
dunk tank?! Three tries to hit bullseye and whoever ends up
getting wet rakes in an automatic donation for a charity of
their choosing!” Having already snaked a surprisingly
strong hand around one of his wrists Sonya steered them both
over and shoved Shadow out front and centre before he had a
chance to object. “This hedgehog right here will brave the
dunk tank for charity! and i'll aim.”
Smiling graciously at his two unexpected volunteers the game
owner cheerily tipped his hat in appreciation. “Alrighty
then! Mr hedgehog if you just hop yourself onto that plank over
the tank like so and you miss take your balls and prepare to
aim!”
