The fennec assumed correctly she wouldn't get a straight answer
from the stubborn hedgehog, a prideful huff is all she will ever
get. "Hmph!" folding his arms and turning his head away from
her. The pair didn't have to wait very long for their next
activity, a man full of energy announced the remaining seats of
a ferris wheel, how convenient. Sonya is eager to get on the
circular contraption and Shadow quietly followed with no
objections, planting his butt on the cold hard seat and strapped
himself in.
He never rode on a ferris wheel before and there isn't anything
spectacular about this ride it seems, the ultimate life form
bear no objections however, all he has to do is watch the world
around him while being elevated to the top. Shadow felt the ride
started and the pair of them are gradually rising to the top
"this ride is too slow.." sulking of boredom, being used to
moving fast his whole life, its weird to taking things nice and
slow for once.

Releasing an exasperated sigh after hearing the hedgehog
complain that the ride was going at a snails pace. Sonya felt
her grip tighten around the metallic barring that sealed them
into their seats and this sudden increase in grip wasn’t
because she was afraid of heights. Ordinarily she would have
tried to joke around or jostle the male beside her despite his
sour grapes mood but this time she wasn’t having it. Her
best friend no her brother her family was gone and he was never
coming back and that sucked for her every single day was a
battle just to do something as simple as get out of bed. She
hated knowing each day that she was going to have to get up and
re join a world that the hedgehog dearest to her was no longer
apart of.
And yet here he was albeit oblivious but soiling something that
made her and Sonic happy. Enough was enough. Turning her head
slowly towards him mouth set into a thin line she responded
almost in monotone. "If this ride is too slow for you then tell
me why did you follow me over here, sit down, and strap yourself
into it?”

"......" Hesitation is the best way to describe this situation,
how could he answer that question without revealing to her he
never rode a ferris wheel before? There's also the sentiment of
not wanting her to be alone on a ferris wheel, but he cant allow
her to see past his brooding facade, not a chance in hell when
his dignity is still intact! Shadow's eyes drifted to Sonya
while his eye sockets drooped half-way and folding arms.
"It was your idea for us to be here, so far this ride didn't
exceed my expectations" shifting the blame on her and
unintentionally letting slip about his first-experience with the
ferris wheel, at least he didn't outright admit it to her face.
Scarlett eyes observe the area beneath them, noting the actual
size of the carnival to be a lot bigger than how it appears to
be on the ground, next his eyes rested on to a roller coaster,
staring at it for a moment, the contrast between this ride and
the other was night and day, why the hell couldn't this ferris
wheel move faster like the roller coaster? "Now THAT is fast"
embracing his love of speed. he can acknowledge one advantage it
has over the coaster is being able to see the sights.

The longer the seconds of silence stretched out between them the
more irritated the fennec could feel herself becoming. She tried
to be as open minded as possible when it came to Shadow after
all for one reason or another her sister saw something in him.
But when he behaved this way she struggled to see what. Casting
the hedgehog a look as if to say ‘really?’ when his
response to her was only that riding the Ferris wheel was her
idea and yeah so what if it had been? This ride was special to
her it was special to Sonic. It wasn’t her fault he
followed her onto the ride not fully knowing what he would be in
for. Blue hues widening at the sudden realisation of what the
hedgehog had unintentionally revealed, she cocked her head
sideways her expression giving way to minor curiosity. “I
don’t know what you were expecting for your first time
riding a Ferris Wheel but this isn’t supposed to be a
roller coaster.”
Leaving the subject at that she turned her attention back
towards the vast scenery around them allowing herself a moment
to get a collective inhale and exhale in. From where the were
sat they had the best view of everything the carnival had to
offer. Loved up couples, care free stereotypical families of
four wandering around in search for their next adrenaline fix.
It was all she could do not to burst into tears there and then
as a feeling of intense nostalgia threatened to overwhelm her.
She was never going to feel carefree in the same way again and
knowing that and accepting that were two very different things.
Her large fluffy ears drooping low against her head as she
caught the tail end of Shadows sentence she finally gave in and
let two small tears spill silently down her cheeks. Her face
shielded by a silky mass of soft blonde waves she fixed her gaze
straight ahead, but spoke very candidly. “You really can
be compassion less you know that?”

Her statement left the black hedgehog silent and puzzled, why
would she say that? Sure he can be harsh and stern most of the
time but he isn't devoid of compassion. Scarlet eyes glanced at
the blond figure next to him, catching a stream of liquid
pouring down her cheek from where her eyes are. Is she crying?
It didn't take long for Shadow to figure out why she is
expressing sadness, he knew her and Sonic were two peas in a
pod, no doubt they have lasting fond memories together. With
him gone Sonya will no longer experiencing those fun times
again, no longer create new memories with her best friend, and
the ultimate life form know what its like to lose someone.
"You miss him, do you..." Shadow stoically stared into open
space, speaking somberly.

Strong as she tried to remain when he spoke next she could feel
herself sinking further into her steadily growing depression.
“Every single day. I keep hoping it’ll get easier
but it never does.” Her tears now falling at much more
rapid pace the fennec dabbed continuously at her cheeks in an
effort try save face. “I’ve tried to just move on
and be happy because I know that’s what he would have
wanted. But I miss Sonic. He’s all I can think about and I
hate knowing that he’s gone.” Sniffling as tears
sprinkled down her face she felt her large fluffy ears flatten
mournfully against her head.

Shadow granted her permission to pour out her sadness by not
speaking a word and listen to her woes, he knew this was
necessary, those tears are never going to be free if she wasn't
able to release her emotions. The black hedgehog didn't know how
to handle this, he's never had to comfort someone else who's
lost a loved one before, no one was there to do help him out of
his trauma when Maria died, how can he give someone a much
needed emotional support when he's never experienced by someone?
Perhaps Maria would have an answer, what would she say? Shadow
continued to stare out into the sky, all he could think about is
remembering what she told him on that day, give people on this
planet a chance to be happy "Dedicate yourself in honoring his
wish for the rest of your life, do that and he'll never be
gone.." projecting his thoughts about Maria on Sonya without
looking at the fennec, it may not be the appropriate answer he
could think of but he tried.

Large fluffy ears twitching as the black furred hedgehog spoke
his piece Sonya was surprised that his response actually had
some merit to it. After all if by some realm of possibility that
Sonic was watching over them somewhere would he want to see her
letting sorrow and despair claim her without a fight considering
she’d come so far? Sonya already knew that answer to that.
Which was why her breathing gradually became steadier and she
blinked away the remains of her tears. “You..
your’re right. He would have wanted that. Thank you
Shadow.”
Surveying the rest of carnival in somewhat awkward silence for a
few moments she eventually let out a resigned sounding sigh
turning her intense blue hues back towards him. “You know
we’ve never really taken to one another me and you. And
before you make assumptions the fact that Sonic couldn’t
stand you isn’t a reflection on my own personal judgement
but I admit it contributed on a minor scale. Well that and your
arrogant attitude, you put up walls to those that don’t
know you well which makes sense given your history. But
everything is different now your’re an extremely important
person in Amys life now and so am I so the most logical course
of action for us both would be to try and get to each other
better. I may not like you much, and if you ever decide that
it’s within apparent best interest to hurt Amy so
recklessly again you’ll have me to answer to. But I see no
reason why we can’t make a mature go out of this.”
Relieved that the Ferris wheel seemed to be coming to a slow
back towards the ground Sonya waited patiently until the rides
security measures loosened freeing them from their seats.
Standing in one fluent motion the fennec hesitated momentarily
but then offered a hand to help him up from the shallow seat.
“So whatdoya say? want to see where this attempt at being
friends takes us?”
