Admin's Notice Board.
By: Helen Date: March 17, 2015, 9:09 am

Every time I check on here now I glance at "Admin's Notice
Board" just to see if anything has been written there about the
goal or direction of the Site :)
As the old saying goes- " the suspense is killing me" LOL
It's becoming a bit like Christmas as a child...waiting with
anticipation...
Waiting to see a heading...
Waiting to see dates, times , and layouts...
Blessings on you Kerry....

Hi H,
One thing I changed just now is adding the ability to applaud or
smite posts. That might not work out well, but then again
maybe it will. I liked Mike's original idea of this being a
lightly moderated site; and if members use this well, the
members themselves could encourage polite and thoughtful posts
without my needing to do much.
I was also thinking of eliminating the phrase "respectful
civility" in the description of "General Discussion." If
people want to be rude, let them and then let them pay the price
if others smite them and they get a negative ranking. What do
you think?

"respectful civility"
That phrase has always had negative connotations for me since
one would have thought that attitude would have been so natural
on a Christian forum without it having to be stated.
It seemed to me to be saying, "we all know we call ourselves
Christians, most of times we don't act like it.
I know!
It's just my quirky way of seeing things.

I took it out. Perhaps some things can go without saying. If
anyone wants to call himself a Christian and behave in a way
that shows he's isn't, why not let him?

Does anyone have suggestions for what kinds of subforums we
should have? The reason I want to divide the forum into
categories is so people can ignore subjects if they want to. I
enabled the "ignore boards" function although at present there
aren't that many boards to choose from. That way, if we get
a politics board and you hate politics, you can choose not to
see it. Likewise if theological discussions aren't for you, you
can simply opt out of seeing them.
So what kind of boards should there be?
If anyone would like his own board to operate a group, drop me
a PM. There are various options. You can have them private
so only the members in your group can see and post in it; you
can have them public so anyone can read and post; or you can
have them so anyone can read but only members can post. You
can also have two areas for the same group -- where members can
post some things privately and other things in public.
If you want a private group, you would moderate it yourself
however you want.

Hi Kerry
I for one am happier with "less is better" when it comes to lots
of categories....it doesn't take much to confuse me...so the
fewer boards to choose from the more I like it! :)
General Discussion/ Secular Discussion/ Prayer and praise/ would
suit me fine.
Most people I think mostly ignore categories and just post in
General anyway...( probably because they aren't sure where their
post would fit.)
And...as you have offered the option of personal boards that
pretty much covers it?
Maybe it's just me....but, even though, knowing that God is
outside of time...I personally like times and dates!!! ;D
I AM missing seeing TIME on here!!! LOL
And the list of post which have been made in a day...at the
bottom looks a bit messy. esp without a date or time.
Having brothers 'over the pond' I am used to seeing if they are
on here at the same time as me...or when they were last on (
knowing that they are "alive and well" and not died in the night
:D )
But...ignore me Kerry...I know you are a busy man and will
organise the site in your own time and how you wish it to be. I
just wanted to 'drop a post' before going off to work today. I
am just burbling-on jere as I usually do.
Blessings on whatever you do.....H

I notice that none of the posts are dated. I
didn't realize that I paid attention to them and used them to
keep track of things until they weren't there. If no one else
has objections, I would like to see them again. If not, no
harm...

It would probably take me a long time to get used to that. I
would probably drop out of any discussion.
Firmness and directness is different to rudeness and being
obnoxious. I don't let anyone be rude to me in real life...be
it standing in line at Safeway or anywhere else. I say my bit
and walk away. But I know many sites have people who get really
nasty...so I am probably the 'odd man out' here. LOL
I hadn't noticed that. Thanks for bringing that to my
attention.
I see that the problem in "recent posts" cleared up too once the
dates got put in. They had been running into each other
before.

I like it simple enough that I don't need to scroll very much if
at all.

had been wondering what was making the items run into each other
on that list. What a surprise that it was the missing dates and
times.

I think that's there now. It shows who was active in the last
15 minutes. Would 30 minutes be better or an hour?
Forum time is still London time; but members can adjust it to
their own time in their profiles under "look and layout."
I think a lot of nastiness is because people learn they
can get their way by meaning nasty. Sometimes I ignore it.
Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I try to reason with people.
Sometimes I get rude back. I don't believe in letting people
"win" just because they're rude. If you let people "win" by
being rude, I think it encourages them to be rude. I guess it
depends on what I think is behind the rudeness.
Trolls on the internet often do it just to get attention. My
guess is their parents gave them attention only when they threw
tantrums. :D
You can always "smite" people if they get rude.
