It's a new start so I figure a new thread for all things soccer
USA. On to Qatar.
It's good that the USA are playing teams like this especially
with the players they brought with them:
GOALKEEPERS: Alisson (Liverpool), Hugo (Flamengo), Neto
(Valencia)
DEFENDERS: Alex Sandro (Juventus), Ded (Cruzeiro), Fabinho
(Liverpool), Fagner (Corinthians), Felipe (Porto), Filipe Lus
(Atltico Madrid), Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain), Thiago
Silva (Paris Saint-Germain)
MIDFIELDERS: Andreas Pereira (Manchester United), Arthur Melo
(Barcelona), Casemiro (Real Madrid), Fred (Manchester United),
Lucas Paquet (Flamengo), Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona), Renato
Augusto (Beijing Gouan), Willian (Chelsea)
FORWARDS: Douglas Costa (Juventus), verton (Grmio), Roberto
Firmino (Liverpool), Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain), Richarlison
(Everton)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1ytLIELZDM
It looks like 20-year-old Weston McKennie (central midfielder)
was the outstanding player for the US. Here's the rest of the
roster:
USA: 1-Zack Steffen, 2-DeAndre Yedlin, 3-Matt Miazga, 4- Tyler
Adams, 6- John Brooks, 7- Bobby Wood (9-Gyasi Zardes, 70),
8-Weston McKennie (25-Marky Delgado, 83), 14-Paul Arriola
(23-Kellyn Acosta, 55), 16-Julian Green (11-Tim Weah, 55),
17-Antonee Robinson, 20-Wil Trapp (capt.) (10-Cristian Roldan,
83)
Substitutes: 22-Alex Bono, 5-Cameron Carter-Vickers, 10-Cristian
Roldan, 15-Eric Lichaj, 21-Tim Parker
Head coach: Dave Sarachan
Around 35,000 attended at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford,
NJ.
The possession was 65% to 35% for Brazil with Brazil having 4
shots on to the US's 2. 12 fouls each. The USA had 6 corners to
Brazil's 3.
That American flag big enough for you? Well, it's your country
so do as you please.

Oops, I was too tardy checking out the video. It's been
removed.
I'm not getting my hopes up too high for the match against
Mexico on Tuesday. Prospects look gloomy to me looking at the
next scheduled matches. Can the US win against Colombia on
10/15? Maybe, but I'm not holding my breath. Against England
a month later? Probably not. Against Italy a few days after
that? I'd say not, but Italy's been iffy lately.

Kerry - ^
The Brazil/USA match was a friendly so I don't know that it
counted for more than coefficients for rankings and experience
which isn't a bad thing at all for the Americans since playing
top level clubs could be a quicker way to get better for the
USA. It's also good that the top level clubs play some of their
stars which Brazil did.
Juan Carlos Osorio's gone from Mexico to coaching Paraguay.
Mexico has an interim coach and they'll be stinging mad after
being trounced by Luis Suarez' Uruguay 4-1 last week. Suarez
ended up with a brace with a panenka on a penalty-kick and a
rabona as an assist on another. Still, Mexico's a top level
club.
The USMNT is ranked 22nd so that's still pretty good considering
that there are over 200 places.
I think that if they keep losing under Sarachan, the USMNT will
be quicker to appoint a permanent coach - - someone like Gregg
Berhalter, an American who coached in Sweden (first American to
coach soccer in Europe) and presently coach of that pain of a
club, Columbus Crew (4th place currently in MLS table and could
qualify for MLS playoff and likely to relocate to Austin, Texas)
if they want to go American again.
Also, Zidane's back on the block so I've read if you really want
to go Euro (and I mean Euro[emoji41]).:

USMNT 1 Mexico 0.
It looks like Mexico has even more work to do than the USA. Goal
by Tyler Adams.
The match was tainted a bit by how Matt Miazga mocked Mexico's
Diego Lainez' height but it appears that by Lainez' post-game
comment, that it was no big deal. Still, I thought it was in
poor taste. I'd like to see Miazga try that against 5' 7" Lionel
Messi. Miazga would be on his backside watching Messi go by.

Under Sarachan since the World Cup the USA has 3 wins 3 draws
and 3 losses with a draw with Peru (a very good team) this week.
Soccer purgatory still but not quite hell. That belongs to
Canada for now. 18-year-old Josh Sargent scored for the USA. The
hilites belie the stats. Peru were all over the Americans and
deserved to win:

The Lion returns.
Wayne Rooney will make his first international appearance in two
years after he was named in England's squad to face the United
States at Wembley.
Former Three Lions captain Rooney last played for England in
November 2016 but will make his 120th and final appearance for
his country against the U.S. this month.
The international friendly, set to take place Nov. 15, has been
dubbed The Wayne Rooney Foundation International and some of the
proceeds from the game will go towards the Manchester United
great's charity.
Rooney retired from international duty in August 2017 as
England's record goalscorer, while he has won more caps than any
other outfield player.
He will not be a part of England's squad for a Nations League
clash against Croatia at Wembley three days after the United
States game.
"I am truly humbled and hugely excited to play for England at
Wembley again. I would like to thank Gareth Southgate and the
Football Association for inviting me back and helping to support
my foundation in the process," Rooney said in a statement.
"Playing for England was the greatest honour of my career so
winning my 120th, and final, cap will be a particularly special
moment for me. It's fitting that the match will be against the
USA and I hope that both sets of fans enjoy the game.:

A strong XI for the Three Lions:

Back left to right: Kyle Walker (D) (Man City), John Stones (D)
(Man City), Jordan Pickford (K) (Everton), Harry Maguire (D)
(Leicester City), Ashley Young (D) (Man United), Dele Alli (M)
(Tottenham Hotspur)
Front left to right: Raheem Sterling (A) (Man City), Harry Kane
(A) (Captain) (Tottenham Hotspur), Kieran Trippier (D)
(Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (M) (Liverpool FC), Marcus
Rashford (A) (Man United)
The decision to pick the 33-year-old Rooney, who plays for DC
United, in this one-off manner has been criticised, with one
argument being it devalues the worth of a cap. Kane strongly
disagrees and said Rooney ought to wear the captains armband
when he comes on to the field.
Should he have the armband against the US? Yes, of course. He
deserves it, Kane said. He was a great captain for us. He was
the captain when I first got into the squad. If he plays, of
course hell be the captain.
Wayne was one of our greatest ever players and its a shame
that his international career kind of just stopped. It will be
nice to see him again and train with him again. I dont know how
long he is going to play for on Thursday but it will be good to
see him back out there. I think the fans will embrace it, we
should all embrace it and give him the sendoff he deserves.
Its a great experience to have for the younger players in our
team and everyone should get right behind it. We should all
appreciate what he has done for us and given to us over a long
period of his life, not just his career. There is a lot of
dedication that goes into international football.:

Okay . . . . .
So, England 3 USA 0. Jesse Lingard (Manchester United FC) 25',
Trent Alexander Arnold (Liverpool FC) 27', Callum Wilson (AFC
Bournemouth) 77'
Kane rested on the bench by Southgate the entire match. Rooney
came on as a sub. At least they laid a new pitch at Wembley
after the mess the NFL left of it a couple of weeks earlier with
a game of theirs. Tottenham had to play their home game on a
pitch which clearly showed the faded gridiron marks and NFL
logos still painted on it. It looked barren of grass and bumpy.
Tottenham are still waiting to get back into White Hart Lane,
their home in the north of London Towne.
Anyhow, the starting XI:

https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2018/11/15/14/16/20181115-news-mnt-vs-england-…
Pulisic makes a Messi-esque run into the box with the ball at
his feet to face Pickford but places his shot right at him.
Could have finished better. His club, Borussia Dortmund is
tearing up the Bundesliga (first overall) and it appears that
he's Lucien Favre's second choice there lately since England's
Jadon Sancho's been playing superbly in midfield. Still, Pulisic
is a very good player that can fit into most top clubs anywhere.

England's Jesse Lingard's goal is a delicious curler past Guzan
into the top corner. Rooney had a couple of belts at it.
