Reservation Dogs
I've tried 3 different times to get through the White Lotus
pilot and have failed every time, but I'll keep trying, maybe.
We're also just now starting Treme (from the creators of The
Wire, ran from 2010-2013), but that's slow going because we both
know it'll rip out our hearts and stomp on them.
[/quote]
Update: Still loving Reservation Dogs
I finally got through the White Lotus pilot and figured out what
was tripping me out about it - they're REALLY good with the
camera angles and they keep reminding you you're a voyeur spying
on these people. I feel like I'm watching this show while
hunched down in the bushes wearing a trench coat.
Also we caught the first episode of the Wonder Years
reboot/reimagining! It's really good! I never thought of Dul
Hill as a patriarch but he's knocking it out of the park.

White Lotus is worth powering through the first couple of
episodes to get invested, IMO. It was really well done and after
it was over I thought it about for days.
This has spoilers but is a great read after you finish watching:

Nine Perfect Strangers is a poor man's White Lotus. Still poking
at wealth and privilege but with a muddier message and horrible
fake Russian accent.

I might never get around to reading that article at this rate.
I'm halfway through ep4 and uh.
There's no delicate way to put this.
Shane's mom is my MIL. This is horrifying.

Molly Shannon is your mother??? I could see that making it
uncomfortable to watch. She's not around for long - 2 episodes
maybe?
We have watched 3 shows lately that have had teenage suicide in
them and as a mom to an almost teenager, I'm having a really
hard time with it. Like I go to bed feeling so worried and sad -
which is NOT the goal of unwinding with TV at night. I need to
pay closer attention to the trigger warnings at the beginning of
the episodes.

We started Ted Lasso a couple of nights ago. I now see what the
big deal is.

After coming across a couple of posters nattering about it the
other day (cant recall who, sadly), I finally watched Donnie
Darko.
What a bizarro flick (in a good, Twin Peaks-kinda way). Jake G
was such a young pup! And the soundtrack was fantastic. I'll
definitely watch it again to see what I missed the first time.
Thanks for reminding me to see it, whoever you are ...

It wasn't me but I am glad you enjoyed it. I love that movie.
I remember the exchange though:

That is such an underrated film. It came out around 9/11 when
the airplane scene was not something anyone wanted to watch.
It's fun seeing the real life Gyllenhall siblings play them in a
movie.
I'm a huge Tears for Fears fan so I love the soundtrack as well.

I'm rewatching The Professional (Jean Reno & (yay! Gary Oldman)
(1994).
I'd seen it once in the mid-90s on a tv movie channel and
remember liking it.
Well, I just realized the 12yr old kid is none other than
Natalie Portman in her first acting gig !
What a surprise: she was a total nobody back when I'd seen it.

Rick has been out of town so I watched a documentary I knew he
wouldn't be interested in - The Way Down: God, Greed, and the
Cult of Gwen Shamblin. It's on HBO Max
Gwen and a bunch of her church leadership were killed in a plane
crash in Tennessee before they had finished filming the
documentary so that made for a weird twist in the story. They
addressed it at the beginning and the end and then focused on
how screwed up it all was the rest of the time. They had several
long term church members (like 10+ years) speak out.
I do remember the weight loss movement that got her started. I
don't think we had it at my dad's church but other local
churches did the program. It was like Weight Watchers with a lot
of praying.
There is also a story line with a couple who "lost" their
daughter when she became romantically involved with a church
member. It was such a Hax letter. They did not make it easy for
her to try and maintain relationships with both them and her
boyfriend/fiance/husband. Lots of demands about her wedding and
things like that.
Anyway, good watch. I have moved on to LulaRich on Amazon Prime.
I have never owned any Lularoe clothing but so far it is
interesting.
