XFCE4 Unexpected Behavior
==========================
I'd been having an issue with XFCE4 after publishing a phost that contains the
squaring ASCII character ("²"): suddenly, when opening my phost in Lynx
fragments of text from my home page would appear on the screen. I didn't find
anything that can solve the problem in the lynx configuration files.
I found that it works fine when running "lynx" from the root account or from
an "xterm" instead of "xfce4-terminal".
It was obviously a problem with XFCE4.
To solve it I chose Edit->Preferences from the termianls menubar.
Then, I tried the tabs in the open window, until I selected the
"Compatibility" tab. Guess what? There's a warning there printed in blue on
white, reading:

"These options may cause some applications to behave
incorrectly. They are only here to allow you to work around
certain applications and operating systems that expect
  different terminal behavior."

Bingo!
Having read the warning I knew what to do: push the "Reset compatibility
options to defaults" button.
Problem fixed.
