RPoD, Safety, Jonas Jonasson

I really liked Jynx's post "On Safety" from August 7, 2021 [1].
Safety sucks. Being safe at any cost sucks. One cannot always be safe, and I'm
cool with it. Next weekend my sister and her husband and kids will be once
again at my parent's house for the weekend, and I am invited of course. My
parents will expect me to stay there for the night and the Sabbath, but I
do not care to do so; I want to flag down a taxi, instead. Unfortunately,
I cannot just take that civil right of mine for granted because that will
start a long and tiring discussion. Maybe I will just flee without asking
for permission.
I just finished the Book "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window
and Disappeared" by Jonas Jonasson. A great read about a man named Allan
Karlsson, who escapes a retirement home on his one-hudredth b-day just when
he's about to celebrate the important day. But, climing out the window and
disappearing is not enough; he in addition has to go on the bus with somebody
else's suitcase. That gets some other innocent people in trouble because he
has stolen the suitcase from a criminal.
So, the innocent people cannot be safe all the time, especially not when
threatened by criminals who want to find the truth and get back their
suitcases. And as you can read in the book, being safe never has been Allan's
style.
That retirement home - which is supposed to be a safe place - is similar to
other places Allan has escaped from.
