# stalling projects // 18-9-14

Why does the train always reach my destination when I finally made it to
start a new post!? Writing in the bus tends to make me feel sea^Wbussick.
Well, a busy day is over now, so again time for writing -- in the
train. ^-^

tfurrows [writes][1] about grex downtime and z80 project.  I must
admit I haven't been often to grex, recently, neither SDF.  The little
time I'm spending logged in to some box (when I'm not on the job, of
course) is mostly on C.S these days. Somehow the minimalism of this
place really appeals to me, although my e-mail mostly runs on SDF.
But posting something into gopherspace here feels easier than using
my nifty (yeah, kind of hybris) plog system with git backing on SDF.
That's probably because I think there needs to be some "real/quality
content" in a post, if it makes it into a git repo, i.e there is kind
of a mental barrier. Here, I just put it into a file, and that's it.
(I'm cheating, though: after it's posted, I normally add it to my git
repo on C.S.)

Git is my Hotel California: I can check out any time, but never leave.

Actually, I was writing about tfurrows projects, wasn't I? The problem
is, I'd like they were mine, I admit. Awesome, to run your own CP/M
system these days -- although the number of people impressed by this
must be comparable to those using gopher and DOWNLOAD.COM. ^-^ Anyway,
please keep posting about z80 and CP/M!

My own projects are somewhat stalling, though. There's a lot of things
to do on the job and privately.

Our lab now has a DWL66+ direct laser writer installed, and I'm just
finishing the training with the service engineer. As I'm responsible
for the box, it's basically mine until we release it for our users.
Never yet I had a toy with a six figure price tag...  But there's also
quite some work on the budgetary front and for other equipment we need
to acquire and where I have to specify our needs.  ("Us" in fact always
means "our users", as we're a user lab.)

At home, we intend to rebuild our top floor to gain more space for our
boys, which soon will like to have their own rooms, at least the older one
(nine).
Of course, it's nice if you can plan for such things -- First World
problems, I know! But I'm missing time for my own projects.
