# Browsing Gopherspace and Web on The Dome // 18-12-30, updated
Gopher is nice, but there is the problem of it being open, which means
everybody on the net between your client and a target system can see
what you're reading. There are services like gopher proxies (e.g on
floodgap.com), but in my opinion the easiest way for people capable of
working with command line tools is going through a public access system
where one can start a client like gopher or lynx.
To add alternatives to all the fine pubnix systems out there, I've
added lynx to the "basics" template of the [gigof suite][1], and
activated it on [Ryumin's Dome][2] in the interactive git-shell.
The command is a wrapper for the "real" lynx, which is started in
highly restricted mode. Bookmarks and options can be saved,
but currently not be taken outside through git cloning.
At startup, a menu of some selected URLs is presented;
if you would like to have something added to that list,
please send a note through the `write` command in the
git-shell on The Dome!
