What I am about to say has been said numerous times and in
different ways over the past 20+ years: the WWW is a real
mess.

I like to read the news, from various outlets, and in
various ways. For work, I'm often in the Opera browser,
which one can easily consider equivalent to any other
modern full-blown browser (it uses Blink rendering);
and so, I often scan over to different news sites in Opera.

Today I was trying my hardest to read an article on the www,
but the news site was so cluttered with nonsense, auto-play
videos popping up and moving around, huge headers, social-
media links, etc, that I had about a 1.5" high sliver to see
the actual content. And of course, they found it necessary
to trim the width down to less than 50% of my screen width,
so the already small area for reading was even smaller. This
might be because of my ad blockers, but even with that
turned off I'm guessing I would have had the same reading
area.

Certainly, I could use any number of solutions to read the
same content with less hassle: lynx, elinks, firefox with
reader view, an opera extension for reading, and so forth
forever. But what in the world makes companies believe that
such a setup is a good idea in the first place??

I realize that venting about it accomplishes nothing, but
it sure is annoying. I guess I'm getting what I deserve for
browsing the www randomly in a monolithic browser...
