I signed my wife up on SDF (welcome sunnyscarlet!), but
she doesn't know a lick of *nix or the command line. At
best, she recalls using DOS as a kid to play video
games on the family computer. I figure, that's enough
of a start for anyone.

Today I helped her login (again- her first login was
this past Saturday when she listened to Anonradio and
chatted in com.) We then went through a few basic
commands (ls, cd, mkdir, etc.) and a few basic programs
(alpine, nano, lynx, elinks.) She sent and replied to
some emails, edited a text file, and even browsed
the modern internet in text mode. She was quite
surprised to learn that FB worked in elinks.

She's convinced that she won't retain any of it.

Her goal in all of this is to participate in the
gopher community. She's been noticing how much I've
been enjoying it, including reading througha gopher
proxy on the web. She thinks it sounds fun, and she's
right. But, there is a price to pay. At least, that's
what I'm telling her. She has to learn some *nix in
order to join in.

Hopefully someday in the near future, you'll be
reading her first gopher post.
