Recently I've had very limited time on the computer in
general, and even more limited time on gopher. Since gopher
interests me, I decided to give DiggieDog on android another
try. I'm glad I did, as they've made some great improvements
to the client.
(RPoD, if you're reading this, yours is the only phlog so
far that I can't seem to access with DiggieDog. I only get
"length=0; index=0" on your .post files. This is probably a
diggiedog problem.)
Here's how I access gopher, in order of preference, and in
inverse order of time commitment:
1. VF1 on a Laptop
This is the most feature-rich, and the most preferred
method, but it also requires that I have my laptop with
me, and that I boot it up and have wifi available.
2. Terminus SSH client on Android Tablet
The tablet has a physical keyboard and larger screen,
which makes this the next best thing to the laptop. I
can use VF1 or other methods available on various
servers, but I still need wifi and a bit of time to
connect and setup.
3. DiggieDog on Android Phone
The phone has data, so no need to connect to wifi (I will
usually share the phone's data for the above two methods
recently, as I have no home internet in the new place
yet.) Quick and easy, but not nearly as nice.
When it comes to authoring content on gopher, the options
above are also in order from easiest to hardest. The phone
is readily available, and has JuiceSSH, so authoring is an
option, but it's very slow with the onscreen keyboard.
I'm glad that there are many ways to consume gopher content
available. I wish I had more time for the preferred methods
right now, especially when it comes to authoring.
