I went on a trip earlier this week for a few days, and
foolishly forgot my laptop's power supply at the hotel. I
was in town the entire day after checking out, but they
didn't bother calling me; I called them and they said "Yeah,
sure, we have it, where can we mail it?" I understand that
it's my responsibility to take care of my things, but they
really could have called me before I left town...

In any case, I will now be using a different machine while I
wait for the power supply to be mailed. Not a big deal,
except that I haven't been keeping my other machines up to
snuff. The machine I'm typing on now is a ubuntu machine,
and I haven't updated it it in long enough that the distro
is no longer supported. That would be OK, but I need to
install one tiny piece of software, and I can't do that
until I upgrade the distro.

Of course, the only internet I have right now is on my
phone, and I don't want to waste it on upgrading a whole
distro. I could just download and compile the software, but
this computer is also very space-limited, and doesn't have
the necessarily tools and libraries to compile what I need.

So, I'm at the library, using their slow wifi to upgrade this
system. That, and a tiny amount of bandwidth for this
session to SDF.

The life lesson here is: try to be more adult-like, and
remember to take your things with you when you leave the
hotel.
