Ok, the 386 portable HDD is working. Wrote a small gwbasic
program to serial transfer the Compaq setup exe, got the
correct HDD params in the cmos, and was able to fdisk/format
the CF and get it to boot. From there, everything was
excessively easy :)

That said, I ran across info online (www) that make it
sound as if the setup.exe was absolutely useless and did
nothing important. Nothing could be further from the
truth, unless you happen to boot from the default 10mb
drive type. The setup.exe program actually has quite a
bit of useful config capability.

That being the case, I'll make sure to put the file in the
hardware section of this site, in case anyone else needs
it.
