I ran across theis quote today and thought it was useful:
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-
mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these
accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and
things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little
corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain
I think this is true. Travel is one remedy, but even just
getting outside our circle of friends, talking with people
who share different views, visiting someone else's church
and attending their services respectfully; all of these
things and more can help us avoid the stupidity that is
prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
