Having a home on gopher (zaibatsu), 04/09/2019
------------------------------------------------------------
For a while, SDF.org was my  main home on gopher, but things
went awry.  I turned to  grex.org (cross was nice  enough to
setup gopher for the users, even  though he's not a huge fan
of the  protocol,) and  it became  my home  on gopher  for a
season. Then, smaller gopher servers started popping up, and
I wanted to  support them, so I made homes  in several other
places (including here on circumlunar.space.)

With my content scattered about,  I was still trying to keep
grex as my "main" gopher hole, because it has (I think) most
of  what I've  created. Unfortunately,  grex has  been going
through occasional  bouts of  connectivity issues.  The last
time it  happened, it  was a telco  hardware issue.  I'm not
sure what is going on with the more recent occurrence.

Perhaps it  doesn't matter. Maybe  grex will fix  the issues
and continue  to provide  services forever.  Perhaps they'll
take the server down without warning at the end of the week.
I have  no idea, and  that's what bugs me.  Communication is
lacking in a big way.

Not  that I  can demand  communication. They're  providing a
free service. They might choose  not to provide that service
tomorrow, and I can't really complain.

Still,  the downtime  (and honestly,  the poorly  configured
gopher server, which causes  some serious timeout issues) is
not something  that I  want for my  main gopher  home. Maybe
it's time to  move again. Links could break  (that irks some
gopher  users,) or  I could  leave the  grex content  up and
simply direct any potential readers to the new home.

It's  interesting  how  something  so simple  is  made  more
complex by  the realities  of the  systems. It's  life, ever
changing.
