Thanks to a client that I support, I am in possession of a
thermal-transfer vinyl printer and some heavy-duty supplies.
A bit ago, a few people talked about gopher-related sticker
designs (some printed examples are in this folder.) I
offered to print and send example stickers to those
interested.
I'm extending that offer to whoever wants to contact me and
give up some of their anonymity (since I'll need a mailing
address.) You'll end up with my address too, but you can
already get that from my HAM callsign (KF7MIX), if you
wanted to stalk me, so it doesn't matter. Rest assured that
I have absolutely no interest in stalking you.
If you want a few gopher and/or geek stickers, here's what
you need to know and do:
- The printer is monochrome. The resultant labels are
outdoor, chemical and scratch resistant, and rated for
years in direct sun.
- I can print up to 4" wide by any length (well, the rolls
are 150' long.) However, for this project, I'd prefer a
max of 2" by about 6", so they will fit in a standard
1-stamp envelope.
- I'm going to simply drop these in the mail gratis. That
means I can probably only send a maximum of about 4
stickers to be under the weight for a regular letter.
- I'll need a PNG (or WMF if you want) of your design,
monochrome. I'll do my best to make it look good; this
printer is for industrial safety labeling, so it's not
perfect, but it does OK. PNG resolution should be suitable
for 300 DPI printing (higher is OK.)
- Large dark areas aren't necessarily going to turn out
well. They might, but it's harder for the printer.
- Very thin lines aren't necessarily going to turn out well.
They might, but they're harder for the printer.
- I might change your design slightly to help it print
better. It's part of the charm of ordering free stuff on
gopher.
- Keep your sticker designs clean, my kids might be looking
over my shoulder.
