something about all of the plastic accumulating in our oceans

The horror did me good, the magic was on my side.

Kudos to Solderpunk[1] for beating me to the  punch on replying to
cmccabe[1] with Everything2[2] as a  definite non-awful web page. I
have been visiting  it sporadically for years and it  is a relaxing
oasis on  the www  of notifications and  clickbait. They  and their
users  are doing  good  work[3] over  there.  I think  Solderpunk's
description was about as close  as you can get without experiencing
it, but then I'm already familiar with the site...

There is some good in the ol' www yet.

I  will nominate  instead consumptive.org[4]  as another  site that
I  occasionally  visit  for   interesting  stories  and  surprises.
Maintained by James Luckett from the wilds of Yellow Springs, Ohio,
James is equal  parts photographer and chef/baker who  has had some
interesting  experiences  over  the years.  It's  definitely  worth
checking in once in a while to see what he's up to.

There is  also Home  Chip Lab[5]  which features  a home  garage IC
chip-fabrication enthusiast. "It's not enough  to have a dream, you
have to have a garage."

Another curiosity:  the International Union of-Mail  Artists[6] - I
hope  someday to  get back  to doing  some printmaking  and thereby
begin doing some mail-art. Right now  however it appears that I may
have a new job (for which I am thankful) but that job is in western
New Jersey.

So it goes.  It is time once  again to figure out how  to pare down
our possessions and make arrangements  for moving them to the other
side of the continent (only three years after having come west from
Maryland  to  the  Seattle  area).  Then the  dance  of  living  in
temporary housing  looking for  something to rent  more permanently
while starting  a new job  all over again.  My wife is  having some
ongoing health issues and we're both low on emotional resources for
such a move so  I'm hoping things go smoothly. The  good news is we
have  more  money in  the  bank  than  last  time plus  a  promised
retention bonus from  the employer I'm leaving  for sticking around
so long to help close things down smoothly there.

We'll be  within an hour or  two of NYC  so there will at  least be
opportunities for interesting things to do there.
