Travel / catching up

Back from travelling out to PEI on a work trip. Was interesting, as we were
chased by a storm on the way out, and skirted a storm on the way back. I
hadn't been to the island since before the bridge, so was a good opportunity
to see the western part, which I hadn't been to yet.

<semi-brag mode on> I've been to every province / territory in Canada, save
Nunavut, which I hope to visit this year. I've also done it all by train,
where a train still exists. You see more when you move slowly, and with over
5K of track, there's plenty to see. There's a certain majesty to a slow
winding trip of several days, 24 hours long of travel, the clickity-clack of
the tracks to keep you company. I'll take that over plane travel, every day.

Interesting reads this morning on the Zaibatsu:

- wangofett on decluttering
I've been following the story on KonMari since the show debuted on
Netflix. I watched about five minutes of it before I lost interest.
There's an article on CBC that references how the weeb has gone crazy
with this.[1] Interestingly, the response to her suggestion to toss
books resonated the most with me.

As a professional recordkeeper, I recall Heinrich Heine's quote: "Dort
wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen." (Where
they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings.)

- tfurrows on Fahrvergnügen
It's been over ten years now since I stopped watching cable TV. Back in
2000, I just started purchasing the shows I wanted to watch, and
eventually, with streaming, just subscribe to the show on iTunes.
Netflix is a bit addictive, however. Good shows, but a *real* time sink.

- visiblink on terminals
There's a certain zen in the terminal. I find when I'm working
fullscreen on a smaller machine, like my MacBook, I can completely
isolate my thoughts to what I'm working on.

I've started using new windows instead of tabs, because I find the tab
list at the top to be jarring, as it reminds me that there's something
outside of the terminal I'm in.

- moji on port70 stickers
How about ":70" with a half-square cursor block, in an old font? Found
       _GlassTTY_, a VT220 reminiscent font.[2]

Might be cool also as an iron-on patch.

Peace, all.
