Debt needs to be looked at from the size of the economy... US is measured in the Trillions where as Canada is in the Billions.
Canada use to have a balanced budget... Back in the 90's the Liberals voted to cut spending and the Conservative looked at raising taxes... Bi-Partisan kind of thing... There is more than 2 parties in Canada... but this was agreed upon throughout the political spectrum.
In walks Justin Trudeau and he spent the sh!t out of the tax payer's money claiming that the budget will balance itself, we're finding out they don't
The US has a few things going for it... Well Trump and the US economy... But the US dollar is a/the Reserve Currency... Other countries use it for trading purposes... ie Oil is traded @ X amout of US dollars per barrel...
There were people trying to thwart that with the creation of BRICS currency... Look at Muammar Gaddafi... He wanted to use gold rather than the US dollar and he's dead...
So, what I'm saying is that... Canada's debt is YUGE <---- as Trump would say.
If you look at it with a little more than dollar amount you would agree.
Canadian dollar is trading @~ 30 cents less than the US dollar... this tells you what the investors think of Canada's monetary policies.
Last point... In the past couple months investors have moved over 900 Billion dollars to the US markets from Canada... because investors see the opportunity south of the border.
As you know I have sold investments in the past... Licensed in Canada and the US. There are Mutual Funds that have more capital in a single fund than the entire economy of Canada.
Canada needs the US to survive. I hope for Canada's sake they can kiss and makeup.
