He's just pushing the "On both sides" Narrative that the Wokies like.

Sheriffs, unlike the police, are elected by the public.  So they have more
power to resist since they aren't dependent on funding and authority from a
corrupt person higher up.

Here in Michigan, many sheriffs refused to enforce our tyrant governor's edicts
because they were blatently unconstitutional - as later ruled by our courts.
