hk> If the new list comes in a new file-echo and maybe with a new name there
hk> will be no confusion. The old software will not recognize it as a
hk> nodelist or nodediff until it has been converted. A list in the present
hk> format can be distributed in paralell during a reasonable time to make a
hk> smooth transition possible.

And it wouldn't even have to be a transition period. Nodes could continue to
use their old software as long as they want.

I think this is the way to go.

[SIDENOTES. Just an add-on feature to a new nodelist-format]

Although, the DNS-system has some interesting features too. It makes you
up-to-date, all the time. And it removes the need for a local nodelist. But I
think this could be solved even better with a new nodelist-format. You could
have an optional central nodelist-server, whom you could ask for a certain
nodelist-entry. This would give you the good things from both ideas. hejsan
