One plays upon the other.  Software that can't process the data in
a nodelist that can't be limited to the data that the software can
process.  A vicious circle.  Victor Frankel would have a field day.

JB>  BS> We only WISH we had that many nodes in a net.  <g>

JB> 2:5020 is pretty big (1423 nodes) and that breaks some software.

Perhaps the POTS seg editors, but the majority of these are IP nodes.
New/updated SW for an IP section of an ESLNL would eliminate that, as
it would do the processing for IP's and leave the PORS as is.

JB> 10000 is not IMO radically larger,

If you think we'll ever have that number in a single net, your a bigger
dreamer than I am.  ;-)  That's larger than the total number of nodes in
the entire network.  <sigh>

JB>  BS> The rest is insignificant when using newer SW to read/write the info.

JB> nope. it shows that the programmer wasn't following the specification.

OK.. let me rephrase that:  The rest /should/ be redundant.  I'll bet
that once a clear and complete set of standards are arrived at, the
programmers remaining will be happy to meet the challenge.

JB>  BS> It will require a short enrty for the POTS 1/2, and the expanded
JB>  BS> enrty for the IP section...

JB> huh? half... there is no pots half. pots is optional as is IP.

I don't think we're one the same page(s) here.  I'm suggesting that
a new NL format enclude 2 separate section... one for POTS (read and
used by legacy software), and one for IP (read and used by new or
updated software).

An abbreviated entry in the POTS section will tell my POTS mailer
to route mail to an IP node, while the actual expanded listing in
the IP section gives all the data needed to connect betewwn IP's.

JB> yes, or run a converter, preferably one tuned to their software type.
JB> IE ione for current POTS software and a different one for current IP
JB> software

Steps that need mot be required, if this is done right.
