Understood. I do not like putting the domain or IP in the name field
either. I also don't like putting the e-mail address in the Sysop name
field.

I understand your point.  Would the "location" field be better? Or is
where you live as important to you as your name and your system name?

Using a flag to indicate the IP or domain address is fine too. As long
as it is /one/ flag instead of one for every IP protocol.
