Hi Nick welcome to the club, I had the same feeling, but with the help of the
Guys and reading better the
documentation I'll sort it out.

Well it depends for which platform you use. I installed on Debian Jessie and
RaspBerry PI3 in a "breeze". Didn't need to write by hand msgs areas or files
areas.
When you familiarize with mbsetup is quite easy.

Other BBS Software has pros and cons like MBSE.

I installed on Raspberry PI3 with Raspbian, if you want I am glad to pass you
some notes.
