Here's a bit of human reasoning ...

If marijuana cannot be used for medicinal purposes, then why should cocaine be
used in the form of codeine? Or heroin in the form of morphine? Or alcohol in
the
form of cough syrup for that matter?  It appears to me that the difference is
in
purity and delivery: to smoke marijuana from the street is to 1) not have
control
over the dosage and 2) to introduce toxins via the harsh smoke that is many
times
worse for lungs than commercial cigarettes. Thus, using a common joint for
medicinal purposes seems to me to violate the medical principles of doing no
harm
and of precision delivery for a measurable objective.

I think you'll have a hard time finding much more than Biblical precepts to
answer this question.
