Hello Jenn,

JC> but since then i've gotten a 6 string acoutistic...pretty old but in
JC> working condition - nice fret finishing and straight neck basically. I

Straight neck?  The neck should have a slight forward curve when under
tension, or what we called "relief."  This allows room for the vibration of
the strings, which forms a curve at the extreme points of its movement.  If
your neck are straight, you will not get the action and hear some rattles
from the lower positions or those from the bass strings.
