Cool! ;-) I hung on to most of my 12" vinyl albums, but only kept
a few of my favourite singles which were still in good shape - probably
no more than about 40 of them, I'd guess.

Ouch! I've heard a few stories like that. I had a friend who lost
half of his life-long collection of comic books and hockey cards a
few years ago - in a divorce settlement of all things! They were
worth thousands!
