It is not necessary. So why do it?
Face the facts -
"Real names" policies are not empowering - they're authoritarian
assertion of power over vulnerable people.
As such, why does Fidonet continue to promote this mad policy?
Are moderators "fascist"? Maybe without intending to be so. But
even with the best of intentions, fascism is still fascism.

anywhere outside of legal documents." So why do it? Why promote the
use of "real names only" policies anywhere in Fidonet?

What is the difference between real name and legal name? Or is there
a difference? And what about personal name?
