Hey Rob!

At the moment, it's on port 2119, if you absolutely have a dire need to look so deeply into this. I just hadn't updated this list with Bjorn because it may very well go back to the original port at some point.

Smapinntpd is basically the exact same thing as Jamnntpd, it just uses the smapi library instead of the older jamlib. So IMO, they fall under the same category. That one I have running on port 1119, if you need proof.

If my memory serves, Bjorn runs the last version by Johan Billings, however his address changed at some point, so maybe that just wasn't updated). Tommi, Carlos, myself, and maybe a couple others run some versions that we've forked to fix long standing bugs and add our own features.

Why do you think I was recently asking you about some possible features in Synchronet's NNTP server, in regards to the "mail" area and making it fully accessible for BBS mail, netmail, and even email since the ability to access all three of these via the telnet BBS is already there (because this is a feature in Smapinntpd and Jamnntpd that I like)? You basically told me to use Synchronet's email server with Thunderbird (which I don't care to), instead. So here I am, using both in order to get the best features from both sides of the fence.

At the moment, all messages containing CP437 look like hot garbage in Thunderbird with Synchronet's NNTP server. Not Synchronet's fault, since Thunderbird dropped any and all codepage support quite some time ago. Smapinntpd and Jamnntpd still use translation tables (much like Golded), so you can at least translate all of that CP437 to UTF-8 so it views nicely/properly in Thunderbird.

I don't think I even got around to asking you for some kind of server side option or even a per user option, to convert to UTF-8 so things would look better in Thunderbird, because every time I ask you questions about Synchronet's NNTP service, you seem very uninterested, unless it's an actual bug.. much like when I bring up compatibility questions about Golded with Synchronet. *shrug*

Either way, there's pros and cons for me between them all right now, and I'm still messing about with all three.

So, yes I'm reading this. Granted, I could care less whether that information is listed in the Fidonews, or not. My guess it is some kind of a fanpage or dedication page to Johan and his program, because the editor has been using that software probably damn near since it's inception.. and I don't have a problem with that. Do you?

Regards,
Nick
