Janis Michelle Giardino Kracht, 72, of Slaterville Springs, NY, passed away
peacefully at home on October 21, 2024. She was born on February 1, 1952, in
Passaic, NJ, to John and Angela (Muraca) Giardino.
Janis grew up in Warwick, NY, and was a woman of remarkable talent and
determination. Even with the challenges of MS for nearly 50 years, she
excelled in everything she pursued. As a high school student, she honed her
sewing skills, creating dresses for Broadway stars. Her vibrant personality
shone through as Drum Sergeant of the Queen Village Queens and as Jean Brodie
in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" while attending Orange County Community
College. Janis was also a gifted cook and baker, winning numerous contests
throughout her life.
In the 1980s, Janis and her husband, Ronald Kracht, embarked on a pioneering
journey in the world of technology, co-founding Invisible Light Software. She
was a driving force in the early days of online communities, running Filegate
BBS and leading the Programmers Distribution Network. Her influence extended
internationally as the head coordinator for North America (Zone 1) of Fidonet.
Janis was known for her humor, fierceness, stubbornness, and above all, her
kindness. She had a passion for sewing, gardening, cooking, and baking, and her
door was always open to family and friends, who were sure to be greeted with
delicious food and warm hospitality. Janis was preceded in death by her
parents and sister Marilyn Giardino Zych. She is survived by her loving
husband, Ronald Kracht; her children, Matthew and Lauren; her grandchildren,
Alex, Eoin, and Andrew; and her siblings: Carol ODea, John and Nancy Giardino,
Lisa Giardino Hyams, Pam Bell, and Tami Giardino Bell.
A service was held in her honor on October 26th at the Charles Mulks cemetery
in Caroline, NY.
Janis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live
on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy of kindness and
determination will continue to inspire.
