I used JAM for about 4 years and don't recall having any great problems with
it.  There were a few minor problems, but nothing that couldn't be fixed (a
whole lot easier than, say, with Hudson).  I'd still be using JAM now except
the editor I use can't do JAM; only Squish, *.MSG, QuickBBS, or Hudson.  That's
no great hassle either as this editor reads my FastEcho config file directly
for area definitions.

There's probably very little difference, performance-wise, between JAM and
Squish in your average BBS setup, though technically JAM is supposed to be more
advanced/efficient.  With JAM you just run the risk of one out of the four
files that make up an echo area going "bad" (due to a disk error, perhaps), as
against the chance of one out of three files that make up a Squish echo area
going "bad".
