If you want to be pedantic, yes, it was released for the Apple II in 1981
whereas the Atari version was released in 1982 (and CBM 64 in 1983, PC in
1984). ;-)

BUT, the Apple II was very expensive and not a great success outside the US and
the Atari version of the game is better known. ;-)
