[sxiv] is my favorite image viewer. It's fast, has a very clean and
minimalistic UI, and it allows you to easily run custom scripts on
selected images.

Since January 2020, there were no commits anymore. The author hasn't
been very active on GitHub before that, but that doesn't mean anything.
However, the feature requests for sxiv were piling up and there was no
response. No idea what's going on with Bert, but I hope he's doing fine.

About two weeks ago, it finally happened:

Someone created an issue asking how to proceed, since the project is
obviously "dead". It was interesting to follow this issue (for a while)
to see what's going on. There were lots and lots of comments. People
showed up, seemingly out of the blue, posting ideas on how to proceed.

Soon, they created a new org:

And that's when I stopped watching the repo. There's just too much going
on. :-) From what I can tell so far, they want to try to keep sxiv
"KISS", small, simple, easy to hack on, focus on maintenance. That's
great, if you ask me! In my opinion, sxiv is already pretty much feature
complete.

I'll certainly keep an eye on nsxiv. Or maybe get involved. After all,
sxiv is one of my favorite tools (and I did send one lousy patch back in
2013).
