Whilst being a massive disaster in the grand scheme of things, this
Corona business has some positive side effects.

For one, I realized I don't need car. I really don't. I could just work
from home most of the time and maybe visit the office once or twice per
week via public transportation. And do anything else via public
transportation as well. Not sure if I'm really going to sell my car
(it's almost 10 years old, probably not going to get much for it), but
when it eventually breaks down, I doubt I'll buy another one.

Then, well, I spend most of my time alone in isolation now. What am I
going to do with all this time? I picked up a couple of new hobbies.
Some of those turned out to be failures, but that's fine. Others, like
playing bass guitar, are awesome.

Also, with all this isolation and the resulting absence of social
pressure, I can finally hear my own thoughts again. Well, I've always
heard them, but you do what's expected of you, don't you? It's really
surprising how easily we're influenced by the opinions of other people
(well, at least I am).

(And the funny thing is, I thought I was *already* leading a secluded
life prior to this. Nope!)

On the other hand, I felt a greater need to connect to people, because,
well, *there's nobody around*. I'm more active on IRC now and gave
Mastodon and twtxt a try. Still not sure about Mastodon (there is so
much annoying noise), but twtxt is great. I wish it was more popular
among us tech nerds. Everyone who runs a blog on their own server should
join twtxt by hosting a twtxt feed as well, if you ask me. :)
