Got a new laptop at work. The previous one was 5 years old.
The new one doesn't feel faster at all. We have peaked. 5 years and no
"wow, this is fast" experience?
Worse, it takes *longer* to boot. All that UEFI stuff takes ages to
initialize. Holy cow.
Then again, it now has 32 GB of RAM (like my machine at home that I
bought in 2013). It's useless for my normal workflow, but it allows me
to do crazy thinks like mount `/var/lib/docker` as a tmpfs or run all my
VMs from tmpfs. That's pretty neat. I also do a ton of work in `/tmp`
for auto-cleanup.
And it's a ThinkPad with a TrackPoint. I've only used it for a couple of
days now, but it's reaaaaaaaally nice.
By the way, I once again used good old `cp` to move the system from the
old laptop to the new one. This never fails to amaze me. So simple,
works, reinstall a boot loader and you're done. I love this!
