I used to do the following to connect to the internet using my mobile
phone:
-- Bluetooth pairing between my computer and the phone.
-- Use RFCOMM to get a serial interface via Bluetooth.
-- Use wvdial to establish a PPP connection.
Well, I had to buy a new phone some time ago and just found out that
it no longer provides a serial interface via Bluetooth. That doesn't
matter anyway, since the "rfcomm" utility is gone from BlueZ. No idea
what to use instead.
Luckily, my new phone runs Android. There's a "Hotspot Mode" builtin.
Activate it, connect to the phone (which now acts as an Access Point
and runs a DHCP daemon) via WiFi and you're good to go.
Not that bad.
Bluetooth doesn't get much love. There's probably a reason why the
OpenBSD guys removed it. I'm happy, though, that I can transfer files
between my phone and my computer using BT.
