Watching interviews of Richard Stallman always makes me terribly sad.

 People  laugh  at him and they just don't understand his point at all.
 They can't even  imagine  a  person  writing  a  program  WITHOUT  the
 intention  of  making  as much money as possible with it. People don't
 even begin to think about "free or proprietary". They get stuck at the
 point  where someone says: "Free software doesn't cost you any money!"
 That's it. That's where they  stop  thinking.  Their  brain  literally
 shuts down. Anything beyond this point is so bizarre to them that they
 can't do anything else than laugh.

 You can't blame them for it. Exploring new concepts is hard and  takes
 a lot of effort. It's a lot easier to stick what you already know. And
 that's what makes me sad.
