States are starting to order folks to stay indoors, though Minnesota isn't
affected... yet. A lot of sobering, kind of dreadful predictions in the news,
as far as how long this is going to last and how many people are going to
become ill... or die.
Made two loaves of bread yesterday, and froze one. Looks like two loaves might
last us four days, which isn't great but also isn't bad. Freshly-made bread is
so much nicer than store-bought stuff, even if it's made with water rather than
milk. (My roommate's lactose intolerant, so we don't normally buy milk, and I
haven't been able to find milk powder anywhere.)
Went to the butcher yesterday, and went a little crazy... or maybe not. Got two
pounds of bacon, three pounds of pork stew meat, and three pounds of pig's
feet. The plan is to use the pork and feet to make soups and stews with; we
have a lot of beans, and they go well with pork. The butcher wasn't too picked
over, but they seem to be doing some pretty brisk business. One of the
employees was putting out two pork roasts in the display case, and was taking
bets from the others on how long they'd be there for... The over/under was 45
minutes.
UPS dropped off a case of cat food that I'd ordered last week, so the cats
should be good for another couple of weeks.
We're being pretty thrifty with food, making it stretch, where possible. Made
soup the other night, and what would normally have been one meal's worth of
leftovers we turned into two, by adding small amounts of pasta or rice
themselves leftover from other meals.
I hope everyone/anyone who might be reading this is doing as well as we are,
and not getting cabin fever or anything.
