Moby Dick. Action Button reviews. Adam Curtis documentaries.

I can only just start to see a line which can be drawn
through these -- making a point through repetition and
through wordiness -- immersing you in the world that they
are building far more than just listing the facts or the
  events ever could.

Moby Dick teaches you about whaling and all the types of
whales and all the types of mariners not to just fill pages
(though it does) but to pull you into the world. Is it
neccessary for the story? No. A modern editor would pull
that out and it would be a worse book for it.

A case of the medium being message -- a shorter or adapted
or summarized version of any of these would miss the point.
Should Adam Curtis make documentaries that are less than 4
hours long? No! Would a YouTube Short of an Action Button
review serve any purpose? Not at all.
