# snowstorm feels

I've miraculously had power and internet since last night, after two
days of rolling blackouts and no internet. I'm just grateful that we
have heat and running water at the moment. My partner lives further
south & they're under a boil water notice for the forseeable
future. It's been rough. Only a few more days until it warms up enough
to melt the snow...

I've been thinking about big disasters like this recently. Not quite
end-of-the-world type stuff, but almost. Uncertain times and all that,
I guess. Maybe it's partly because I'm getting older and I'm paying
attention more, but it feels like these big terrible things are
happening more and more often. I suppose they are. We're not exactly
being kind to the planet.

This past year has been rough. It's made me think a lot about what
really matters, though. Love is important. Helping your neighbors is
important. Standing up for what's right and fighting for a better
world is important. The system of money and laws and old rules is
meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Any time I start thinking big about the future, I just end up wanting
to learn more about gardening. There's something beautiful about being
able to grow your own food. It's practical, too. Maybe I'll start
putting together a spring garden plan today. Hopefully the power stays
on. I just wish that everyone can stay safe.
