Mastodon Social Platform and The OStatus/ActivityPub Federation

                ______             While I like to think that the federated
             _-' .   .`-_          social media network is a lot like the
         |/ /  .. . '   .\ \|      Federation from "Star Trek", it does have
        |/ /            ..\ \|     a number of warts.

       \/ |   _|_ .| . .:  | \/    I know Mastodon has made a push to make the
      \ / |.   |  .  .    .| \ /   software very easy to install, by anyone,
       \||| .  . .  _|_   .|||/    which is great!  Most anyone can have their
      \__| \  . :.  .|.  ./ |__/   own instance, within a few minutes.
        __| \_  .    .. _/ |__
         __|  `-______-'  |__      But, the ease of installation also brings
            -,____  ____,-         a group of folk who do a lot of griefing.

Thankfully, Mastodon has some great moderation tools to get rid of griefers.  I
know I've have to silence a couple of instance already on
social.buffalomesh.net, and outright had to block another (For depictions of
child porn).  But, nonetheless, you can get rid of that stuff pretty easily.

I'm definitley enjoying it, however.  Lots of technical folks there, and lots
of good conversations too about current politics in the US.  I suggest everyone
give it a test drive.  I think you'll enjoy it!
