2020-07-21 - More juggling
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past month or so i've kept practicing juggling, and still
am enjoying myself with it pretty much. On good sunny evenings i
regularly practice on the grass outside in a really quiet park for
about 30 minutes to an hour. (I don't really feel comfortable to
juggle when people are around, but i like to practice outside) And
slowly i'm getting more handy with throwing three balls around.
Now the normal cascade is very comfortable to do, and i can
continue it for quite long runs. In addition i'm slowly getting
more skilled in the reverse cascade. Also the half-shower and
tennis are going better every day.
Over this month i've also learned how to do a cascade with throwing
an occasional ball from under my leg. And i'm practicing to do
single throws from behind my back. All is still focused on just
three balls, and i'm wondering when i should advance to 4 or 5
balls.
When practicing I'm amazed how much skill difference there is
between my left hand and my right hand. Somehow everything is much
easier to do with my right hand. Or to be more complete, everything
on my right side seems easier. Also back throws and under-the-leg
throws...
So to compensate, i tend to practice a lot doing things on my left
side. But whenever i start learning a new trick i can typically
first land it using my right side. For example, i managed to land
my first under-the-leg throws on my right side about two weeks
ago. And only today, after putting a lot more effort in practicing
on the left side, i've been able to land these throws on my left
side.
It's funny how it works really... And it is also fun to go through
this (occasionally frustrating) process. You can really tell the
brain is trying to figure stuff out, and the brain (and body
control) is certainly not symmetrical in my case.
I wonder if there would be a point where the brain would get more
used to ambidexterity and pick up on these tricks more easily.
Until then i'm definitely gonna have to put more effort in these
back throws from my left side, because somehow my left hand keeps
throwing the balls in all the wrong directions. :)
