2019-09-17 - Walking, Bookreading, TV
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Today i had a day off, and it was a nice day for some some walking
around a lake nearby. I explored the edges of the lake a bit,
looked for good pebles and stones, and did some bookreading (The
invention of Nature - Andrea Wulf) in the autumn sun. Everything
was splendid and reminded me that i should go out more often and
read more books.
Basically that's all one would need to be happy; Being able to sit
in the sun and read a book. Strangely i somehow seem to make things
more complex than they need to be.
Today i had a peek at (commercial) television in the place i am
staying at. I haven't seen TV in quite some time as i cut my cable
at least 10 years ago. Watching some TV today, i am truly amazed
about the shit people are apparently paying for.
Over here, there are 3 national public channels (which could be
received for free out of the air using DVB-T2) and these channels
give some ok-ish programs, and they are free. For the commercial
channels, a basic subscription costs around 16 euros a month. After
some years of absence, I am absolutely amazed about the quality of
the commercial TV; It's absolutely crap! And more importantly, the
crap is constantly interupted by bloody commercials. I saw they
were even rebroadcasting "Married with Children" and "Allo Allo"...
How is this still a viable business for these guys? Why are people
still buying such a poor product?
For the same amount of money you could get 2 basic netflix
subscriptions, which provide you with a whole bunch of series and
movies to watch on demand, and without commercials. To me that
seems like a much better deal?
Anyhow, i don't have netflix, as i have fiercly limited internet
(which is great, as i need this time to make walks and read books)
I was writing about reading books wasn't i? Ugh, why did i start
blabbering about tv...?
It seems these phlogs are just a way for me to spew out random
thoughts. Sorry if it goes from one thing to the next. I will try
to write something coheren... i saw a squirrel today! He was cute!
