Kuril Islands: Best place for US missiles
by Pravda Report

Four Russian islands of the Kuril chain, which Japan
wants to be returned, are a perfect place to deploy
American missiles there.
A recent article in Japan Business Press publication said
that deploying air defense facilities on the Kuril
Islands will strengthen the defense capability of both
the United States and Japan against North Korea's
ballistic missiles.
According to the publication, Iturup Island is believed
to be the most suitable place for the purpose. The island
can also be integrated into the air defense system that
protects Europe from Iran.
The deployment of US missiles on the Kuril Islands will
give the USA an opportunity to block the Russian navy
base of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok. This would
enable the United States to monitor launches of Russian
missiles from the Sea of Okhotsk promptly.
The publication also said that Russia is unwilling to
hand over the islands to Japan, because the Southern
Kuril Islands are of great military value for the country.
Russian Senator Oleg Morozov said that the authors of the
article work against Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,
because such an approach can only make Japan face more
problems. His colleague, Senator Franz Klintsevich,
called the article in the Japanese publication a
provocation. According to him, it is only Russian defense
systems that can be deployed on Russian islands, as there
is still no peace treaty between Russia and Japan.
