Series consists of typescript copies of entries from the
Abstract Indexes to Deeds books originally held at the
Peel Land Registry Office, covering ca. 1806 to the 1920s
or so. The files were compiled by staff working for Wm.
Perkins Bull as part of his research project on Peel
County.
The files are organized by township, concession, and lot.
In addition to key details about land ownership over
time, Bull s staff also added in information from the
original surveyor s diaries (1806-1820s) with regard to
local vegetation and landforms[1] then found on each lot,
as well as additional information about people and
families on the land gleaned from other records.
The following townships are reflected in the listings:
Toronto, Toronto Gore, Chinguacousy, Albion, and Caledon.
Please note that no material exists for the Trafalgar
Township lands annexed to Mississauga in 1974. These
records therefore cover modern day Brampton, Caledon, and
most of Mississauga. These records are particularly
useful for those trying to ascertain the legal history of
lands in the Credit Indian Reserve (CIR) in southern
Mississauga, given the complexity of those surveys.
Related records at the Region of Peel Archives include
the Abstract Indexes to Deeds, Copy Books, and Instruments
[2] found in the Peel Land Registry Office fonds. Date is
a circa date.
