Ernie Paniccioli at a private listening party for the
late rapper Big Pun s second album release Yeeeah Baby on
April 4, 2000 at Jimmy s Bronx Caf in South Bronx, New
York.
Jimmy's Bronx Caf hosted a private listening party on the
day of the album s release for family members,
collaborators and admirers of the late rapper, in
memorial. Thousands were in attendance, with people still
filling into the club at 1:30 a.m., "He was just ill. He
was gangsta, but he was funny, too," said Guru of Gang
Starr, who was present the night. Along with others like
DJ Premier, M.O.P., Tony Touch, Dr. Dre, Terror Squad,
and more. "I love you, my nigga! You'll always be a
brother to me. Christopher Rios was the greatest. My
idol. My best friend," shouted an emotional Fat Joe from
the club's stage as tears welled in his eyes.
Big Punisher (born Christopher Rios) died February 7,
2000 in White Plains, N.Y., at age 28.
Fat Joe, Big Pun's mentor and close friend, said the
proceeds from the album would be used to support Rios'
widow, Liza, and his three children (MTV News).
